The California Adventure comes to a close...
New Year's Eve ended like this - we arrived to our San Diego airport hotel at about 6 pm. I brought in the one little suitcase and I was ready for us to go find a party to bring in 2008.
I found a "First Nite" in Escondido - "First Nite" is a family-friendly celebration that offers live music, dancing, activities for kids, food and drink, and fireworks at midnight. Just what the doctor ordered to make up for Disneyland, dontcha think??
Well...Ian didn't want to go anywhere. He pretty much planted his feet and wanted to "watch the ball drop".
As my friend Melissa put it - well, this cramped my style, to be quite honest! Megan and I were ready to go party! But not if it meant Ian either being left behind (not an option though he insisted) or drag him along, pouting (um, no thanks).
Megan and I hung out in the lobby for a while. We tried to call all of our family and closest friends. Wow, nobody answered...glad everyone was having a good time!
She eventually went up and got Ian and they went to the pool for a while. I watched them enjoying their last night and tried not to be disappointed.
About the time Ohio brought in the new year, they came back in from the pool - and suddenly Megan had a really bad headache, migraine style. She went straight to bed!
That left Ian and I. We watched Times Square for a while. I don't know who the girl was that was hosting but she was terrible! I tried working on my computer, but there wasn't wireless in my room, so I went to the lobby to blog while Ian kept watch over Megan and watched the festivities on TV.
I had to be just about the only person in that hotel! You could have heard a pin drop. I sat blogging and e-mailing and listening. 12:00 came to California and I could hear that Barry Manilow song in my head, "It's just another lonely New Year's Eve..."
Oh my, that is SAD!
I went upstairs to give the kids a new year's kiss...
The next morning we had to get going to the airport. I am so glad I allowed us a full 2 hours at the airport. Boy, did we ever need it. Security was a VERY long line to wait in. Then Megan left her water bottle in her bag as we had 20 totes going through Security...this was by far the most stressful part of our journey!
We finally made it home about 10 pm last night. Just as I had told the kids on the way..."You know what happens when you go on vacation in Ohio - you come back to a snow storm every time!" I guess I was right!
The good thing was that the girl next to me on the plane grew up in California and had never seen snow. She was meeting an Aunt and Grandma in Columbus that she had never met. We helped escort her to baggage claim to find them and she was whooping and hollering the whole way about the snow! She was so excited. It helped us be excited too. :)
Welcome back...and welcome 2008!
